A great aspect of the art education program at UTA was our class that centered on technology in the classroom. It gave us some great opportunities to use different technologies to create artworks or solve problems in the classroom. Here were two of my favorite projects that I completed in that course.
First, we created a stop-motion video using the technology available for educators. I loved that I got to try my hand at claymation once more. I was able to finally re-shoot and re-develop my Dreams video that I first created in my digital design studio. However, now I was able to find ways to teach a stop motion video in the classroom. I would love to do this project in schools, and even collaborate with the music teacher to create original soundtracks as well! Out of convenience, I used adobe premiere (which can be purchased at a low cost to educators and students) however, the process can be completed with numerous free or lowcost apps downloaded to your phone or tablet, which I have researched so I can teach the lesson. Here you can watch the final video!!!
For the second project, we had to solve a problem in the classroom and use technology found in our maker space at school (the FAB-LAB at UTA). My group decided to use the sewing machines and embroidery machines to create a supply holder for tables. We created an original logo using adobe illustrator and uploaded our design to the embroidery machine. We also designed and created the prototype seen above using vinyl, clear plastic, and fabric. We made sure that it was adjustable for any table, brightly colored and organized. It gave me a chance to evaluate problems and possible solutions that I may face in the classroom. My only regret is that I wasn't able to make a classroom set for myself.
